Khaled Abid Academic Professor of contemporary history was among the few ones who strongly expected the victory of Donald Trump. He emphasized that the Americans who voted for the Republican candidate and not the Democratic are sending a powerful message to the rest of the world that the United States is entering a period of isolation. It means that their country is going to adopt a policy of isolation based on decreasing interest in foreign affairs and focusing more on national concerns and local issues.
On this view, Obama’s support for Tunisia as part of what is known as the Arab Spring will probably come to an end with the new President.
Mr. Abid added that putting an end to American support for Arab Spring countries will have a negative effect at the level of American support for Tunisia. As for the effect of the elections on political Islam, Mr. Abid considers the result as telling a message that the political Islam is mostly over in the era of trump, and that decision makers in these countries are going to look for a new version.
