New Year eve: Reservations of European market edge up in Djerba

Booking for the New Year holiday in Djerba and Zarzis edged up to reach 6 thousand and even more, Regional Tourism Commissioner Amel Hachani told TAP. The European market represents 80% of the reservations mainly divided between the French, German and Russian markets.

Local tourism is decreasing after reaching 50% in 2015. This drop is caused by the change of the winter holiday’s date.

The total number of entries and stays edged up by 50% during the September-November period.

The Russian market attracted 220 thousand tourists since the start of the year till November 2016, against 600 in 2015, the official added.

Besides,  the Melloula border post recorded, on Thursday and for the first time since December 2010, the entry of ten thousand Algerians in one day to celebrate the New Year holiday, Regional Tourism Commissioner in Tabarka Hichem Mahouachi told TAP.

Some 40 thousand Algerian tourists entered Tunisia through Melloula between December 24 and 29.

The occupancy rate in hotels in Tabarka and Ain Draham reached 85% on average till Thursday. It should approach 100% on December 31, the Commissioner estimated.

In Nabeul and Hammamet reservations for the New Year eve in hotels reached 5 thousand, the Regional Tourism Delegate Ezzedine Krami said.

40 hotels in the region scheduled special programmes to celebrate the New Year, he told TAP correspondent adding that inspection and control campaigns of property, health and quality in the hotels and touristic networks increased over the last few  weeks.
