High influx of Algerian tourists in border posts of Jendouba and Kef (2016)

(TAP)- The border crossing of Melloula, in the Tabarka delegation (Jendouba governorate), recorded, for the first time, a strong influx of Algerian tourists, with the arrival of 644 thousand tourists until December 2016, an increase of more than 32 % in comparison with the year 2015, indicates a report of the regional tourism commissioner of Tabarka.

The border crossing of Babbouche (delegation Ain Drahem in Jendouba) registered until the end of 2016, the entry in the Tunisian territory of nearly 127 thousand Algerian tourists, a jump of over 55 % compared to the year 2015, according to the report.

The regional commissioner for tourism, Hichem Mehouachi, said the number of Algerian tourists who entered the Tunisian territory through the border crossing of Melloula, Babbouche and Jelil (Governorate of Jendouba) and Sakiet Sid Youssef (Kef) exceeds one million tourists representing half of Algerian tourists staying in Tunisia in 2016.

The number of tourists visiting the city of Tabarka exceeded in 2016, some 158 thousand tourists, over 15 pc up compared to the year 2015 according to the same source.

This strong influx of Algerian tourists is explained by the security stability registered in the region and the quality of tourist services provided in addition to the importance of the tourist promotion campaign launched by the National Tourist Board, said the same source.
