President Béji Caïd Essebsi received a telephone call from U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday afternoon.
During the telephone call, both sides reviewed the main steps marking the historical relations between Tunisia and the United States which date back to over two centuries and the constant evolution that they are experiencing.
According to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic, the two presidents commended the level of bilateral cooperation, affirming their commitment to further promote it in all fields, “given the role Tunisia plays as a key partner of the United States (in the efforts) to strengthen the factors of security, peace and stability in the region “.
Béji Caïd Essebsi emphasised that the security and economic challenges facing the region call for strengthening the various aspects of the strategic partnership between the two countries, the statement said.
In turn, the U.S. President asserted his country’s commitment to continue to stand by Tunisia and to give it the necessary support in order to meet the challenges it faces, in particular to fight against extremism and terrorism, common enemy of both countries.
According to the presidential statement, Donald Trump stressed the importance of meeting with the President of the Republic in Washington to continue consultation and dialogue on these issues.
