Tunisian judges Monday began a general strike against the deterioration in their working conditions answers calls from the Tunisian Judges Association.
President of the Tunisian Judges Association, Rawda Al-Qarafi, said: “We live in a strange and unprecedented situation after the government and the Ministry of Justice closed all channels of dialogue, which is a retreat from the most important constitutional gains, which is the partnership to manage the judicial component.”
“The crisis includes the legislative initiative to revise the Supreme Judicial Council law which would allow the political authority to interfere in the judiciary.”
A member of the Tunisian Justice Association, Abdel Fattah Al-Kharashani, told the Anadolu Agency: “We will gather tomorrow [Tuesday] before the People’s Assembly [Parliament] against the draft law, which we will address with full force to prevent the violation of the Tunisian constitution.”
The Tunisian parliament begins discussing the legislative initiative in a plenary session Tuesday.
