Tunisia: decline of reported investment in regional development zones

The first two months of 2017 saw a 38.1% decline in reported investment in regional development areas to 145.7 MD compared to 235.4 MD in the first two months of 2016.

The share of these areas in the total number of governorates increased from 39.8% to 35.8% during the first two months of 2017. This was stated in the latest economic report of the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII).

The decline in declared investments in regional development zones is mainly attributable to the regional development delegations of Sfax, Kairouan, Zaghouan and Jendouba governorates.

The number of projects benefiting from the regional development investment premium increased from 29 (for a total investment of 33.4 MD) to 27 projects (for a total investment of 30.7 MD) during the first two months of 2017.

These projects will allow the creation of 532 jobs, compared with 560 jobs during the first two months 2016.

The investment premium granted reached 5.9 MD against 6.1 MD during the first two months 2016, down 3.3%.
