Paypal to Launch Soon in Tunisia

“Paypal, the online payment gateway, will submit a roadmap for the launch of its services in Tunisia before June 2017,” Minister of Communication Technologies and Digital Economy Mohamed Anouar Maarouf said at the opening of Startup Mahdia event.

There has been considerable headway in implementing Tunisia Digital 2020, particularly in connection to the digital infrastructure and the digitalisation of the administration.

Efforts are underway to attract pioneer international companies as part of this programme, the Minister indicated. An agreement was inked recently for the launch in Tunisia of a subsidiary of GFI company which offers e-payment solutions for over 15,000 users around the world.

Steps forward were also made, particularly with the Tunisian Post embarking on e-payment and Tunisia joining the SMART Africa Alliance. This 18-strong alliance, a market of about 1.2 billion customers, is an opportunity for Tunisian firms to develop their business, the official underlined.

The digital economy accounts for roughly 70 percent of the GDP, hence the need to promote it to secure an efficient contribution to reboot the national economy.

Startup Mahdia is an annual meeting which offers local youths the opportunity to launch their IT projects, Maarouf highlighted.
