President of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Tunisia Chapter Ayoub Baba said the Association is striving to achieve the aims for which the association was founded which mainly consists in the transition of Tunisia’s energy sector and the training of Tunisian engineers so as to be up-to-date in the world as regards the skills in energy engineering and industrial sector.
Tunisia is going through a crucial transition in the area of innovative energy citing the example of South Africa which has gone through this experience of energy transition, he told Express FM on Friday.
In 2012, South Africa went on blackout for two weeks which led to think seriously on the need for an energy transition. South Africa started to achieve energy transition and projects on new energy. The clean energy rate was at 2% and reached 9% within four years. Some 55 projects in innovative and clean energy were set up in South Africa, creating over 6,000 jobs which is a real good example for Tunisia to follow and seek successes in the field of innovative energies.
The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Tunisia Chapter was created for the purpose of achieving an efficient energy transition, Ayoub Baba said.
The AEE which is an international association that exists in more than 100 countries started its activities in Tunisia since June 2017.
“We recently held the international inauguration ceremony in Tunisia with attendance of six countries,“ AEE Tunisian Chapter President said.
Last January 20, 2018, an event was held, with the attendance of six AEE members from six countries, Including South Africa which went through the same energy transition that Tunisia is experiencing now, in addition to Spain, Jordan, Lebanon and the United States of America, AEE President said.
Four workshops were held during the gathering which revolve around the international experiences in the field of energy transition.
Ayoub Baba placed emphasis on the aim of creating the AEE Tunisia chapter which is the establishment of clean energy and the solar plan in Tunisia. He highlighted the government encouragement to this vital sector so as to reach a rate of 12% of innovative energy by 2020 and 30% by 2030 while Tunisia’s clean energy rate stands at 3%, currently, he went on saying.
The Association of Energy Engineers Tunisia Chapter was created in June 2017.
Being as the first of its kind in North Africa, the AEE Tunisia chapter is an international chapter of the parent association AEE, based in Atlanta, USA, (Atlanta, GA) (www.Aeecenter.org), with 98 international chapters around the world and more than 20,000 members. It is a professional, non-profit organization that brings together energy professionals, engineers and architects as well as students from engineering schools.
The AEE Tunisia Chapter aims mainly to promote the professional, scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry.
It also aims to cooperate with other industries, associations and organizations, and in particular with parent association’s international chapters and to promote the skills and know-how of its members as well as stakeholders on energy industry by organizing training courses, forums, Seminars and workshops.
