The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Monday.
The celebration was held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Tunis, and attended by the governors of the IDB member countries, official delegations and a number of representatives from the private sector and civil society. The event comes on the sidelines of the 43rd meeting of the board of governors of the IDB, which was held in Tunisia on Sunday under the theme “Partnerships for Sustainable Development.”
ITFC CEO Hani Salem Sonbol commended the high level of collaboration between the Tunisian government and the IDB Group, noting that the collaboration helped facilitate ITFC business activities in Tunisia.
“Tunisia supports ITFC initiatives aiming to develop intra-OIC trade among member countries. We have achieved praiseworthy results in terms of trade finance and development since 2008, with trade finance approvals exceeding $40 billion. This reflects the ITFC’s catalytic role in leveraging funding for major strategic trade operations in favor of member countries,” Sonbol said.
A number of people who co-founded, supported and partnered with the ITFC as well as the internal team who supervised the process of founding the ITFC between 2005-2008 were honored.
ITFC’s 13th general assembly meeting in Tunis will discuss the corporation’s strategic plan for the upcoming phase. ITFC will also organize a meeting of Arab state governors of the IDB Group, which will focus on the Aid for Trade Initiative for Arab states and will be attended by Arab ministers and governors.
