Tunisia launches calls for 500 MW solar, 500 MW wind

The Tunisian Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies has launched two tenders, one for 500 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants and one for 500 MW of wind farms.

The ministry on Friday published calls for pre-qualification applications. Bidders will later compete to carry out the projects on build, own, operate (BOO) basis.

The solar tender is for five projects — 50 MWp in the governorate of Tozeur, 50 MWp in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, 100 MWp in the governorate of Kairouan, 100 MWp in Gafsa governorate and 200 MWp in Tataouine governorate.

The wind tender covers three projects — 200 MW at Jbel Abderrahmane in Nabeul governorate, 100 MW at Jbel Tbaga in the governorate of Kebili, and 200 MW of capacity at sites proposed by the developers. The sites for the former two projects are provided by the state.

The government has indicated that the solar and wind tenders are upcoming.

Earlier in May, Tunisia authorised 10 PV projects, six of 10 MW and four of 1 MW, as part of the first round of tenders, launched last year.
