Prospects for cooperation between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia discussed as Saudi Crown Prince meets Tunisian President

A face-to-face meeting was held, on Tuesday in Tunis at the Carthage palace, between President Béji Caïd Essebsi and  Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdelaziz al-Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, on an official visit to Tunisia.

An extended working session followed the meeting for the two countries’ delegation which focused on the increasing development of bilateral relations since the visit of President Caïd Essebsi to Riyadh in December 2015, according to a statement of the Tunisian Presidency of the Republic.

Besides, the two sides reviewed ways to hoist cooperation in various priority fields, namely the economic and financial sectors and the promotion of investment in addition to the exchange of expertise and experiences in the cultural and scientific areas.

Caïd Essebsi and Saudi Crown Prince Bin Salman discussed the consolidation of security and military cooperation with the aim of combating extremism and terrorism.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the reality and prospects for cooperation between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia and to discuss issues of common interest at the Arab, regional and international levels.

The preparations for the organisation of the 30th Arab League Summit in March in Tunisia, and the efforts exerted to make this major event successful were also at the focus of the meeting.

Later, a dinner was offered in honour of the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia and the delegation accompanying him.

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia pays on Tuesday, November 27, an official visit to Tunisia at the head of a large delegation of princes, ministers and Saudi senior officials.

“This visit is part of energising the excellent and historic relations between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia and the common will to strengthen them in all areas, so as to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples”, the statement of the Presidency of the Republic reads.

On his arrival to Tunis, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was seen in by President of the Republic Béji Caïd Essebsi at the presidential pavilion of Tunis Carthage international airport.
