Unemployment rate reaches 15.3% in Q1 2019 (INS)

Tunisia’s unemployment rate reached 15.3% in the first quarter of 2019, down 0.1% compared to Q1 2018 (15.4%) and 0.2% compared to the fourth quarter of the same year, with a slight drop in the unemployment rate of graduates, The national survey on population and employment revealed.

For the first quarter of 2019 conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the total number of unemployed stood at 637 thousand 700 unemployed against 644 thousand 900 unemployed in the fourth quarter of last year.

With regard to youth unemployment (aged 15-24), the survey results point to an unemployment rate of 34.3%, which is estimated to be 34.3% for men and 34.5% for women.
In this connection, the number of working people reached 3 million and 520 thousand people in the first quarter of 2019, against 3 million 507 thousand people during the same period of 2018, according to the survey.
The number of employed persons is divided into 2,590,000 men and 929,700 women.
