A nation-wide cleanup campaign is due to be organised on Sunday, October 20, 2019, under the slogan “Clean Up Your Country”.
Launched by young people on social media, this initiative is part of voluntary clean-up operations organised in several governorates of Tunisia namely Tozeur, Gafsa, Sfax, Gabès, Kasserine…, after the October 13 presidential election, under the slogan “Awareness”.
These initiatives are supported throughout the country, where many citizens have taken part in these operations by cleaning the streets, collecting garbage, beautifying cities, planting and maintaining plants…. A group of young people from Mahdia have even carried out an operation to clean the seabed.
In response to this citizen effort, the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment invited all municipalities to mobilise their resources to support this citizen campaign in a statement issued on October 16.
This collective awareness has led to several other citizen campaigns such as those calling for “Using Tunisian seeds to consume Tunisian”, planting one million trees on National Tree Day ( November 12, 2019), or feeding the homeless.
