450 participants from 25 countries expected at Rally Tunisia Desert Challenge

No less than 450 participants representing 25 countries will take part in the first edition of the rally “Tunisia Desert Challenge” scheduled from 5 to 13 November 2021, announced the organizers at a press conference held Friday, October 29 at the Ministry of Tourism.

The conference was attended by Minister of Tourism Mohamed Moez Belhassan, Minister of Youth and Sports, Kamel Deguiche, President of the Tunisian Automobile Federation, Hatem Ben Youssef, the President of the Tunisian Motorcycle Federation, Mehdi Bach Hamba, and CEO of the Tunisian Oil Distribution Company, AGIL, official sponsor of the rally.

The Minister of Tourism has highlighted the geographical characteristics of Tunisia allowing it to host and successfully organize this kind of competition that are an opportunity to promote the tourist and cultural heritage of the country.

For his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports welcomed all parties who have contributed to the organization of the desert rally, adding that his department is open to any sporting initiative that would enhance the image of Tunisia and contribute to the promotion of sports tourism.

In this context, Deguiche revealed that the ministry will cooperate with a number of Tunisian athletes, who have distinguished themselves at the global level, to conduct campaigns to promote tourism and sport Tunisian like the tennis woman, Ons Jabeur, and the Olympic champion, Oussama Mellouli.

For his part, the president of the Tunisian Automobile Federation said that the desert rally represents a new challenge for the organizers, a few months after the success of the Phoenix International Rally held from 13 to 20 March 2021, calling for the need to facilitate customs procedures during the entry of vehicles racing in Tunisian ports.

An appeal supported by the President of the Tunisian Federation of Motorcycling who also said that the rally will see the participation of a single Tunisian motorcyclist and two car drivers.

For his part, Nabil Smida, CEO of the Company AGIL, official sponsor of the “Tunisia Desert Challenge”, said that the organization of the rally carries a message of hope to the world that our country is rich in achievements, successes and positive aspects.

He added that the Tunisian Company of Oil Distribution has always supported motorsports, as was the case for years with the Tunisian pilot Hend Chaouch, and will remain a partner of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to encourage new talent.
