Tunisia: Civilian parachuting in Tozeur, a premiere in Tunisia

SKYS Tunisia made it now possible to experience the sensation of a parachute jump in the middle of the desert.

In this first edition, which started on October 27th and will continue until November 30th, the parachutists have settled in the city of Tozeur.

Organizer and founder of this incredible experience is a Tunisian-Canadian, Hedi Abada, who was able to learn this extreme sport in Canada, where he has been living for about fifteen years. He was able to bring experienced parachutists from all over the world to assist adrenaline lovers.

Hedi Abada’s objective is to make this discipline known to Tunisians and why not develop it.

“This idea started from a dream. That of bringing civilian skydiving back to Tunisia”. Since 2017, Hedi Abada has been trying to organise this extraordinary event. “I wanted to bring together in one place many parachutists and to introduce this sport to Tunisians,” he told media.

According to Hedi Abada, it is also a question of developing another form of tourism through sport, as is the case for example in Morocco, where thousands of tourists flock each year to practice kitesurfing.

The jumps are made in tandem with a certified skydiver. An experience that is therefore accessible to all. A short training is given to the jumpers before the jump. Once the briefing is over, the candidates take a small plane that will take them to 13,500 feet, or 4,100 metres in altitude, from where they launch themselves into free fall for a few seconds before the parachute opens. The dropzone is located at the Anantara Hotel in the heart of the Tozeur desert.

“So far, about 150 Tunisians have been able to jump since the beginning of the event. We have also received foreigners who came especially for the occasion,” says Hedi Abada.
