Tunisia to receive $400 Million from WB for Vulnerable Households

The World Bank said on Tuesday it approved $400 million for Tunisia to help about 900,000 vulnerable Tunisian households cope with the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.

The Bank said the additional financing will continue to provide cash transfers to poor and low-income households while strengthening Tunisia’s social protection system.

Alexandre Arrobbio, World Bank Country Manager for Tunisia, said “This additional financing supports Tunisia’s response to the impact of the health crisis as well as its plan to build a more effective and adaptive safety net system for vulnerable populations by supporting the country’s efforts to improve their living conditions.”

Ferid Belhaj World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa was received by President Kais Saied Last February.

Belhaj said that his meeting with Saied was an opportunity to discuss several topics including Tunisia’s economic situation and projects launched by the World Bank, specifically those aimed at supporting the private sector.

After a later meeting with Prime Minister Najla Bouden, Belhaj said the bank was ready to provide the necessary funds for Tunisia to push through economic reforms.
