Tunisian Hatem Sellami uses artificial intelligence and data science to optimise promotions

A computer scientist, he has extensive experience in predictive analysis. His company Cognira helps retailers and wholesalers to better manage and optimise their promotions.

Hatem Sellami is a Tunisian computer scientist who graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1995 with a doctorate in computer engineering, and from the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business in 1996 with a master’s degree in finance and technology management. He is a co-founder and the CEO of Cognira.

Founded in 2015, Cognira is a US-based company that provides retailers and wholesalers with solutions dedicated to promotions management. Its aim is to simplify collaboration, analyse past results and implement more informed and effective upgrades.

Through integrating data science and artificial intelligence, the company has developed an innovative solution, PromoAI, that enables retailers and wholesalers to plan better, execute, analyse and optimise promotions.

Through Cognira, Hatem Sellami has enabled his customers to increase their sales by around 8% and reduce their stocks and waste by an average of 25%. The company has received several awards and distinctions. It has been recognised as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the US by Inc. magazine in 2019 and 2020 and by Financial Times in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

A serial entrepreneur, Sellami co-founded Predictix, a consultancy specialising in predictive analytics, in 2005. Before the company was acquired in 2014 by Infor, an IT company, it grew its turnover to more than $20 million.

His professional career began in 1997 at Retek, a company specialising in retail forecasting, where until 2005 he was data scientist and head of demand forecasting.
