A deal to build and equip the King Salman bin Abdulaziz University Hospital in Kairouan was signed on Thursday in the presence of Minister of Health, Dr Mustafa Ferjani,Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia, Dr Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Saqr, and Director General of Operations for Arab Countries of the Saudi Fund for Development (SDF), Engineer Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Obeid. The $85 million project will be financed by the SFD thanks to a grant from the Saudi government, the Tunisian Ministry of Health said in a statement.
Welcoming the project, Mr Al-Ferjani said it demonstrated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting stability in Tunisia and strengthening the health infrastructure.
The project will turn Kairouan into a health centre serving the north-western and central regions of Tunisia, sparing patients long journeys for treatment, the minister told reporters after the signing ceremony, according to the press release.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Saqr praised the bilateral ties and partnership, affirming the Kingdom’s commitment to continuing its support for Tunisia’s development in various fields.
He recalled that the SFD has already financed 32 development projects in Tunisia for a total value of more than 1.2 billion US dollars.
