The Tunisian-English feature film ‘Sophia’, directed by actor Dhafer El Abidine, who is making his third attempt as a director, begins shooting on Saturday.
During a press conference held on Thursday afternoon in Tunis, Dhafer El Abidine explained that the film, for which he wrote the script, will start shooting in Tunisia on Saturday, September 14, and will run for six weeks, in places such as the old city, Sidi Bou Said, Hammam Lif, as well as England.
The film tells the story of a mixed marriage between a Tunisian who arrived in England through illegal immigration and an English woman. The fruit of this marriage was a girl named Sophia, but the father was deported to Tunisia, and five years later his wife and daughter came to Tunisia in search of him.
The director revealed the names of the Tunisian actors and others without revealing the film’s heroine, namely Hiba Abouk, who lives in Spain, and Kais Sebti, who lives in Germany, and British actors Jessica Brown Findlay and Alex McQueen.
Dhafer El Abidine explained that the script was the first one he wrote in 2012, but it could not be produced due to a number of circumstances. He considered that his experience of directing the two previous films will have a good impact on his new work.
He said that his life experience in England had some influence on the social and humanitarian film, which will rely in some parts on the action style.
