Tunisia boosting renewable energy drive

Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and UPC Renewables (UPC) will develop a 30MW Sidi Mansour wind farm in Tunisia. Tunisia starts first immigration census

The Tunisian statistics institute (INS) started its first census on immigration to help define the country’s migration policies. The INS announced it had started the first census on international migration in Tunisia. Called the “Tunisia-Hims,” this survey is meant to provide accurate and clear statistical data on immigration in Tunisia. The first of its kind in Tunisia, the survey was launched this month and will end in March 2021. Tunisia adopts law on crowdfunding

The law on crowdfunding was passed by the House of People’s Representatives. The new law will pave the way for new forms of financing that were previously inaccessible. Entrepreneurs, civil society actors and private individuals will be able to raise funds from the public through online platforms. The law on crowdfunding completes a series of new laws aimed at improving the business environment in Tunisia:  the law on social and solidarity entrepreneurship, the decree-law on self-entrepreneurship, and the Startup Act. Tunisia officially integrates AfCFTA

At a plenary session held this afternoon at the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), the deputies adopted the draft organic law relating to the founding convention of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) In detail, 152 people voted in favour of the proposed text, with no abstentions and no votes against. 200 kW Floating Solar Project to be launched in Tunisia

The French renewable energy company Qair International is moving ahead with its planned floating solar power plant in Tunisia with 200 kW capacity. It has secured a partnership agreement with the Tunisian electricity and gas company (STEG). As per Qair’s website, it won this project in November 2019 from the French Ministry for Trade and Finance under a call launched for Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Cities in Africa. Monastir to fine anyone catching sea turtles

Monastir is Tunisia’s first municipality to set a 1,000-dinar fine in an attempt to protect sea turtles, which are an endangered species in the Mediterranean. ”Anyone who captures, sells, or transports a sea turtle in the territory of the City of Monastir will be punished with a fine of 1,000 dinars,” the regulation states. Tunisia negotiates debt rescheduling with four international lenders

Tunisia has undertaken to negotiate a rescheduling of its debt with several international creditors. The measure is aimed at easing the pressure on the Maghreb country’s economy. According to Investment Minister Slim Azzabi (pictured), negotiations are being conducted with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, and Italy, four of Tunisia’s main partners.
