Results of Tunisian renewables tender expected soon – report

The results of Tunisia’s first renewable energy tender will be announced within a month, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported on Monday, citing energy minister Khaled Kaddour.

Speaking at the BGS Solar Summit in Tunis, the minister said that 69 companies have taken part in the tender.

Tunisia launched a tender calling for the supply of 210 MW of electricity generation capacity from wind and solar photovoltaics (PV) earlier this year. The Ministry for Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies released a calendar with two deadlines for the auction, with bids for 140 MW of the capacity due by November 15. A deadline of August 15, 2018 was set for 70 MW of wind bids.

Tunisia aims to generate 30% of its electricity from renewables by 2030. That goal will be achieved through the addition of 1 GW of capacity in 2017-2020 and 1.25 GW in 2021-2030.
