WTTC classifies Tunisia as COVID-Safe destination

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) announced in an official statement issued on Friday that it has classified Tunisia as a COVID-Safe destination, granting it the status of “Safe Travel Stamp” to recognise the safest destination that can accommodate tourists safely, announced the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.

This classification has also concerned 30 other destinations, in addition to Tunisia, says the Ministry’s statement published Friday in Tunis.

“This classification is the result of the success achieved by Tunisia in the fight against the Corona virus following the adoption of the health protocol in the tourism sector and the cooperation between the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT) and the “Tunisia Jobs”, of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Ministry had launched in May 2020 “the Health Protocol for Tunisian Tourism anti COVID-19”. This protocol, which serves as a guide, includes a number of measures related mainly to the respect of the rules of health preservation and sanitary security, in order to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the tourism sector.

The protocol, which aims to restore the confidence of tourists and travel agents, is part of the efforts to control the spread of the Corona pandemic in tourist establishments and to ensure the health safety of agents operating there and of tourists.
