Dates: Tunisia registers rise in exports, foreign currency earnings

The dates exported early this season (October 1, 2016 to April 13, 2017) have increased by 15% compared to the same period of the previous year.  Foreign currency earnings from these exports also grew 40%.

The quantities of dates exported reached 75.1 thousand tonnes with a value of 396.7 million dinars (MD) against 65.6 thousand tonnes with a value of 286.5 MD during the same period of the past season.

Besides, the quantities of organic dates exported amounted to 7.7 thousand tonnes.

Dates have captured new non-traditional markets this season, such as the countries of Western Europe, East Asia, North America and sub-Saharan Africa.

Morocco occupies the first place (18.3 thousand tons) ahead of Malaysia (6.3 thousand tonnes), Italy (5.8 thousand tonnes), Indonesia and France (5.2 thousand tonnes).
