Hergla to host film festival on Tunisian animation on August 19-22

The Hergla film festival 14th edition will be held from August 19 to 22.

Aimed to spotlight African and Med films, the Festival is sponsored by the Association Ciné-Sud Patrimoine, in association with the Italian Institute of Culture, the Tunisian culture ministry and TV5 MONDE.

This edition’s main focus is Tunisian animation films and their evolution since the 1960s, with the pioneer of the genre Mongi Sancho, up to the present days with “Briska”, the latest work by the young director Nadia Rais.

Rais is considered one of the most important directors of the youngest generation and received an award at the last Fespaco.

50 films will be screened during the four-day festival in addition to meetings to be held to discuss the current state and the outlook for the sector in Tunisia, with directors, critics and university lecturers taking part, as well as several training workshops held by Francesca Veneziano to help children understand art.

A special section on Sicilian film is due on the last evening, August 22 , with 7 films to be screened with. a collaboration between the Filmoteca Regionale Siciliana and the Animaphix international film festival of Bagheria including the screening of Ugo Saitta’s “Pisicchio e Milisenda”, an 11-minute short black-and-white film.

Tunisian-Italian actress Claudia Cardinale will attend the closing evening.
