The new tourist resort built in Tozeur by “Qatari Diar” will be inaugurated early December 2019, with attendance of Arab and world figures, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts René Trabelsi said on Sunday at a meeting with the press during the 3rd edition of the “Dunes Electroniques” (Electronic Dunes) held on November 16 and 17 in Ong Jmal, Nefta.
Trabelsi indicated that the five-star resort consisting of luxurious villas will be one of the Anantara chain’s main luxury hotels whose unit should attract Asian markets, including the Chinese and Japanese, in addition to the US market.
These markets have a high rate of return reaching 1,500 to 3,000 dinars per tourist per night, he pointed out adding that this new resort will also attract sports teams to train in this region characterised by its mild winter climate.
Besides, the Minister noted that during the same period, the city of Degache will be proclaimed a tourist city at the request of its municipal council.
This area has a non-valued tourist heritage, though most of the tourist tours pass through the Degache delegation.
René Trabelsi also added that several opportunities for diversifying tourist products are offered by the region, besides possibilities of attracting Tunisian and foreign film producers and designers.
Trabelsi also emphasised the importance of air transport in the success of the winter tourist season. Efforts are being made to re-operate domestic flights between Tunis and Tozeur, in order to attract tourists to southern Tunisian, on the occasion of cultural and tourist events, such as the International Film Festival and the International Oasis Festival scheduled for December 2019.
