Chinese grown Tunisian soft-seed pomegranates flood the market

Tunisian soft-seed pomegranates can be consumed directly without spitting out the seeds. They can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 months and in cold storage for up to 5 months. It is a variety that currently has the softest seeds in the world and is also the best variety grown in China.

The pomegranates grown in Sichuan are famous for their fast growth, early fruit-bearing, high yield, and early ripening. Sichuan, as a region with ample sunshine, a large difference in temperatures between day and night, and concentrated rainfall, has the natural ecological conditions for the development of high-quality pomegranates and is one of the most suitable areas for growing this fruit in China, Fresh Plaza reports.

Compared with products from other producing areas, Tunisian soft-seed pomegranates grown in Sichuan have almost no seeds. “The crop in Panzhihua, Sichuan begins to ripen in August each year, and the production season can last through to October. At present, the product is becoming available in large volumes, and the market price has declined slightly as the supply increases,” Mr. Fu Zuhong of Miyi County Minsheng Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. said.

“The production this year in the Panzhihua area is relatively stable -basically the same as in the previous season. In terms of prices, there is a significant drop compared with the same period last year. However, this is mainly due to the impact of the downturn in the larger market environment. Compared with other fruit categories, the sales of our pomegranates are still good, and the outlook for the production season is optimistic.”

“In reaction to the special circumstances of this year, we have actively adjusted our market sales strategy. In previous years, we marketed our products to wholesale markets and supermarkets across China via online and offline approaches. This year, we mainly market our products through e-commerce. We can see from the sales feedback that our timely adjustments to the sales channels have been beneficial to our sales.”
