Tunisia: Dams conditions after latest rains

The latest rains in Tunisia over the last few days have been a real blessing after months of drought. But what about the dams? According to the Observatoire tunisien de la météo et du climat, recent rainfall has reached 40 million cubic metres, equivalent to 20 days’ consumption.

At present, according to the same source, the rainwater is still trickling down through the rivers to reach the dams. More rain is expected in mid-December. On Monday December 11, 2023, engineer and meteorologist Mehrez Ghannouchi reported that the rate of filling of the dams had reached 23.2% – according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.
