Presidential election campaigns start

The campaigns for the presidential election scheduled on Sept. 15 started Monday on the Tunisian territory and will continue until September 13. The election campaign abroad began from August 31 to September 11.

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) announced  Saturday a list of 26 candidates running for the presidential election.

According to the ISIE, the total number of voters registered in the presidential and legislative elections reached 7.2 million.

As for the presidential election abroad, which will take place on September 13, 14 and 15, the ISIE has provided 310 voting centres and 391 polling stations in six constituencies abroad, which will receive 387,000 registered voters.

Draws for live TV appearance for presidential candidates were conducted on Sunday. Recording sessions with candidates are set for September 4-5 and broadcasting will start on September 10 as of 7.30 p.m. and continue till September 13.

Election debates will be organised in the second week of the campaign – a first in Tunisia and Arab countries. These debates will be conducted in partnership between Tunisia’s radio and television corporations and private TV and radio stations at the initiative of Mounadhara, a forum of Arab open debates based in Tunis.
