“Sharfia” fishing in Kerkennah Islands classified as UNESCO intangible heritage

Ambassador-Permanent Representative of Tunisia to UNESCO, Ghazi Ghraïri, received Friday, February 19, 2021, on behalf of Tunisia, the certificate inscribing the fishing of the “Sharfia” of the Kerkennah Islands to the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The certificate was presented by Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay. Tunisian Dr Ali Saad awarded Prize for Best Doctor in Arab World

Tunisian physician Dr. Ali Saad was awarded the Prize for the Best Arab Physician for his success at the head of his medical team and his efforts to support training and research in cytogenetics and reproductive biology. Dr. Ali Saad is Head of Department of Cytogenetics and Reproductive Biology at the Farhat Hached University Hospital of Sousse. 8.8% GDP decline in 2020, a first in Tunisia

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell by 8.8% in 2020 compared to 2019, According to figures provided Monday, February 15, 2021 by the National Institute of Statistics (INS)0. The INS indicates that this decline is “unprecedented” for the country. Its growth rate has declined compared to the same period in 2019, by 2.1% in the first quarter of 2020, 21.3% in the second, 5.7% in the third and 6.1% in the fourth. ITFC financing to strengthen Tunisia’s trade efficiencies

The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, signed a framework agreement with the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Investment Support, to increase trade flows and build trade capacity. The US$1.5bn agreement is aimed at supporting Tunisian state-owned companies to finance the importation of essential commodities such as energy and industrial products amongst others, as well as to access trade development programmes to drive exports and promote inter-regional trade with other Arab and African countries. Tunisian start-up 2BK Innovation has developed an application to facilitate the collection of municipal waste.
