Tunisia: olive oil production estimated at 240,000 tons for 2021/22 season

Tunisian olive oil production for the 2021/2022 season is estimated at 240,000 tons, a jump of 100,000 tons compared to the previous season, Directorate General of Agricultural Production of the Tunisian Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.

These figures could be revised up or down, depending on the weather conditions in October.

The ministry said final olive-growing production for the 2020/2021 season reached 700,000 tons, for 140,000 tons of olive oil production, down 65% compared to the 2019/2020 season.

The ministry said purchases started slowly due to poor weather, with current prices estimated at 1.2 dinars per kilo, which should increase after Tunisia is out of stock and world demand grows.

The ministry expects to export 180,000 tons of olive oil at the end of October 2021.
